A day of firsts...

Today was a day of firsts for me as a mother...

Ryan, who went out for the first time since being home for four days with strep throat, had a bit of an exciting day... after playing on the playland he sat down on a bench, which he was sure had a back on it, and threw himself backwards onto the floor after cracking his head on the pole that held the table up. His head was instantly bulging. He had a bump the size of a golf ball on the back of his head and was crying. I was trying to remain calm as we put ice on it, and checked him by asking him questions and talking to him, checking to make sure there was no brain damage, which is just what I like to have to worry about, especially in a mcdonald's restaurant. He turned out to be okay, just a major bump on his noggin. I kept him up, and like any good mom, I spoiled him directly afterwards by buying him a toy to deter his attention to something else. He played for the next 4 hours (yes literally) with two matchbox cars that cost me 1.50 each. He was back to himself in minutes, and playing like Ryan, but I was a mess all day worried sick about him. I asked him a 100 times (yes, probably literally) How he was feeling? When I finally let him go to sleep at 9:30 pm he was well-worn out, and ready to get some zzzzz's. He did sleep on the floor beside my bed, and even though my boy slept soundly, I didn't. I kept checking on him all night. This morning he woke up fine, and all is well. Still a bump, but praise God, Ryan is fine. Thank you Lord, for taking care of my precious boy....

Part II of the "Firsts" was because of Ryan's "First" head accident. Because I couldn't let him go to sleep, we all went to the stable to keep him entertained. The girls rode, and Gracie had her very first riding lesson with momma. She did incredible! She rode all over the place, practicing her balance, and even trotting. All the while, her brother was playing in the fresh sawdust pile which was fine with me, because it was SOFT, and couldn't hurt him, so I was fine with the sawdust covered underware I took off of him hours later. It felt so good to cuddle with him when evening came, because I realize how much we take for granted that our kids are well and healthy. I was so thankful he was okay. I even let him have chocolate chip cookies for breakfast this morning. Aww, every once in awhile you gotta bend the rules, and live, right?
